KET Exam Structure – Supporting Children in Taking the First Steps to International Exams
About KET
KET (Key English Test) is an A2 level exam according to the CEFR framework, suitable for students who have passed Flyers or have basic communication skills. This is the first step to certify international English proficiency, very useful for future study and work. Parents can accompany their children during this important stage.
KET exam structure
The KET exam consists of 3 parts, total time is about 2 hours:
-
Reading & Writing (7 parts, 32 questions)
-
Combine reading comprehension and writing short sentences. For example: Fill in “I ___ to the shop” (fill in “go” to make it “I go to the shop”).
-
-
Listening (5 parts, 25 questions)
-
You will listen to the conversations and choose the answers. For example: Listen to “She is at the park” and choose the picture of the park.
-
-
Speaking (Speaking – about 8-10 minutes)
-
You will chat with the examiner or your fellow examiner, answering questions like “What do you do in your free time?”
-
Students need to achieve at least 70% to pass the exam.
How to help your child prepare?
-
Practice reading and writing: Parents should guide their children to practice reading short passages and writing simple emails or notes.
-
Listening focus: Encourage your child to practice listening through A2 level podcasts or videos.
-
Practice speaking clearly: Accompany your child to practice answering questions with teachers or classmates.
