About IELTS
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an international test to assess English proficiency, suitable for students who want to study or work in English-speaking countries such as the UK, Australia, and Canada. The test has two versions: Academic (for university study) and General Training (for immigration or work). Parents can support their children to achieve this important goal!
IELTS test structure
The IELTS test consists of 4 parts, with a total duration of about 2 hours and 45 minutes:
-
Listening (40 questions, 30 minutes)
-
You will listen to four conversations or monologues and answer questions. For example: Listen to a conversation about class schedules and fill in the information.
-
-
Reading (40 questions, 60 minutes)
-
Includes 3 reading passages with questions such as fill in the blanks and choose the correct answer. For example: Read the article and choose the appropriate title. (Academic focuses on academics, General Training uses everyday texts).
-
-
Writing (2 parts, 60 minutes)
-
Part 1: Describe a chart or write a letter (150 words). Part 2: Write an essay (250 words). Example: Write an essay about the impact of technology.
-
-
Speaking (Speaking – 11-14 minutes)
-
You will have a face-to-face interview with an examiner, answering questions like “What do you like about your city?” or discussing a topic.
-
Scores range from 0-9, and students need to achieve at least 6.0-7.0 to qualify to study abroad (depending on the school).
