Movers Exam Structure – Helping Children Improve Basic Skills

About Movers

Movers is the second level in the YLE series, suitable for students who are familiar with Starters or have a basic foundation in English. This exam helps them develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in a more natural way. Parents can support their children in this important step in preparation for higher levels!

Movers exam structure

The Movers exam consists of 3 parts, total time about 30 minutes:

  1. Listening (5 parts, 25 questions)

    • You will listen to longer conversations and choose the answers. For example: Listen to “The boy is playing football” and choose the picture of the boy playing football.

  2. Reading & Writing (6 parts, 35 questions)

    • Includes reading comprehension and writing simple sentences. For example: Fill in “She ___ to school” (fill in “goes” to make “She goes to school”).

  3. Speaking (about 5-7 minutes)

    • You will chat with the examiner, answer questions like “What do you do at the weekend?” or tell stories through pictures.

The maximum total score is 15 shields, and you need to achieve about 10-12 shields to pass.

How to help your child prepare?

  • Practice listening carefully: Parents should encourage their children to listen to audio clips multiple times to get used to the speed.

  • Sentence writing support: Guide your child to write 3-5 sentences every day about daily life.

  • Create speaking opportunities: Accompany your child to practice answering familiar questions with teachers or classmates.

Be patient, and you will see your child improve dramatically!
